Ok, so I'm still learning about differentials... I understand limited slip and the way it functions, but a few questions:

    1) If it's now an option on the 2006 GT model, was it the only thing available on the 2005s or was it not on them at all?
    2) If it wasn't on the 2005s, what kind of differential was?
    3) #2 may answer this, but what will be the other option instead of limited slip on the '06?
    4) Which of the two will create better handling in daily driving or at the track?

    and...
    5) How much $?

as far as I know all '05 mustang GT's had the Limited slip.

most Mustang GT's and Cars with more powerfull engines have avail. or come with sometype of limited slip (on the mustang GT since about mid 80's a limited slip called track lock or traction lock has been avail)

posi, trac lock, traction lock, no spin, are all names the manufatures give to a limited slip.

a limited slip diferential or L.S.D. refers to a device in the center section of the axle that uses clutches springs, gears, plates etc to do one thing: give the car more traction when power is put down, the device helps both tires turn when under power while letting the right and left tires turn at different speeds for when going around a corner, this last part is where the limited slip name applies.

if you don't have or don't order a limited slip what do you get?
    you get a
open differential this type is standard on most low performance cars, when you put alot of power to a open diff you get one thing, only one tire spins and the car does not get up to speed as quick as a car with a L.S.D.

do you want to pay extra for a L.S.D.? yes, for most performance minded people, and a nessesity on any race track

no, if its your teen age childs car or a car just to get to point a to b.
and maybe a no if you drive in very slipery condition alot, the reason is, with L.S.D. cars on slick surfaces they tend to fish tail alot or side slide, this is in extremes and most likely the traction control helps this no matter what diff. you have.

the cost will likely be small around $100 or so, hopefully they will offer a package with the L.S.D. that you get lower gears also (higher number)

update 5/16 no guide yet, two diff. dealers

    also some more '06 info:

-low tire pressure warning system on all '06 production cars

    -converible boot now standard

    -may have engine cover option

-looks like red int. upgrade is avail

remember, all info is gathered from misc. places, so nothing is final until we can see the guides

If you're getting a 300HP car that a lot of Mustang enthusiasts use for straight line tracks, open differentials shouldn't even be available - limited slip should be it and you shouldn't have to pay extra even if it's cheap. Maybe limited slip vs. locking differential as options on the GT, but no open diffs. That's just IMO though, and I realize that the majority of people who get a Mustang are just going to use it for daily driving.

Still though, open differential on a car with this kind of power? It's silly.

I agree, this information is only important if Ford decided to make L.S.D. an option in '06

on a side note, I have had mixed experences w/ factory LSD's (some are tight and some are loose, like open almost, '85 turbo coupe was tight, '86 GT was loose, '89 saleen SSC w/ Aubern LSD was like a locker, my current '05 GT is very tight so far almost locker like when I make sharp slow turn I can hear the inside tire scuffing.
I also have a Jeep Wrangler TJ w/ ARB air lockers (they are selectable from open to fully locked) front & rear, the best investment to date, that thing will crawl itself onto it side with just the rear end locked in and with both locked you can get yourself int crazy/stupid situations

    Black
    Legend Lime
    Performance White
    Redfire
    Satin Silver
    Screaming Yellow
    Torch Red
    Tungsten Silver
    Vista Blue
    Windveil Blue

I'm disappointed by the disappearance of mineral grey and sonic blue. Those were two great colours. I'm not sure what Vista Blue or Tungsten Silver will look like (hopefully similar).

Check http://www.paintscratch.com/cgi-bin/makepaint2.cgi to see Aston Martin (a Ford company) paint chip for tungsten silver. Granted, it is just a chip and likely not representative, but you can compare it to 2005 Mustang titanium on the same site via search from home page.

Above link may not work! Search paintscratch.com under 2005 Aston Martin colors.

The Tungsten Silver is cool, I would have gotten that had they made it in '05. I guess you'll always know that a Mineral Gray Stang is an '05.

Does this mean that parts will be available to equip V-6 Mustangs with fog lights?

Assuming the parts would fit an '05, I mean ...
