You have to go with the 85.5 SVO. 302's didn't have nearly as much pop back in 83 as they did in the 87-93 and beyond era's. 1983 5.0 302 V8 - Rated at 175hp 1985.5 SVO 2.3T - Rated at 205hp There's a couple numbers for ya to chew on.
Just want you to know, comp prep did not have more power or performance than a regular svo, or always a weight advantage after it's all said and done. Basically some just ended up as SVO's without a wing. And worse, when you actually look at build sheets (which I haven't done - but read about and discussed at the reunion) there's no real law that was followed. A sheet could show the comp prep package, but a stereo and electric windows ordered, a/c, or even a dealer installed sun roof as a member owns one. My SVO is nearly a comp prep now. Front speakers don't work, electric doorlock doesn't work on the passenger side, a/c yanked. Everytime I work on something, I remove any of the sound deadening material. Plus it has cool mods!
i would pick the svo over the 5.0, altho the 5.0 would have a lot more low end tq. When the turbo kicks in, its out of there.
I yeah know, I was just thinking of a lightened 85.5. Thats interesting I didn't know they could be ordered with the options. Now I wonder if I've passed one up. It still should run/outrun though. My 84 will run with the basically stock 5.0s in luray from a dead stop right up until the end of 3rd when the clutch starts howling.
hey thats needed. If you're anything like me...If I get beat(especially by someone like cro I turn into a fierce competitor.) All in fun of course.
