wanted to know what is the purpose of the aluminum dog bone set up on the bottom of an 8.8 rearend is it a dampner can it be removed help please

It is definitely not aluminum, I've heard it helps with vibration from the rear end, but I removed mine with nothing noticeable happening
It probably weighs 15-20 pounds.

Its a NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) thing. Most people scrap them and don't notice a difference. Mine is long gone.
