I have installed a 2000 3.8 litre in my 2000 mustang as well as the dash cluster. I used all the wiring for the 2000 and integrated it into the the original dash wiring. I have 2 problems. the engine will not start it appears the cam sensor is not firing the injectors.The only thing I havent done yet is install the fuel tank and fuel lines for the 2000. I have the lines but still need to get the tank and fuel pump. Could the lack of having the tank transducer keep it from starting? My other problem is that everything appears to work on my dash cluster from the 2000 except my odometer shows dashes across it. Please help!!! I have traced back through everything but i know I must be missing something.
Did you get the PCM module from the 2000 as well? You can't run a 2000 model 3.8 on a 95 computer. Cam sensor, you sure you don't mean the crank sensor? The crank position sensor is responsible for main timing. The cam sensor only calibrates the timing more precisely. Are you sure the injectors aren't firing? How about the ignition coil pack? Try unplugging the cam sensor, leave the crank sensor plugged in and try starting it.
could it be a "pats" problem from changing over the gauges? that will make it turn over without starting. if you swap gauges you have to keep your original circuit board from the original gauges. unless maybe "pats" was after 95. idk
Iused the pcm and all other components from the 2000 the only thing I did not use was the dash wiring and I integrated(spliced) into the 95 harness at all the right locations on the 2000 wiring. I do have the wiring diagram for the 2000. The engine cranks and will start on spray. My understanding is the crannk sensor begins the initial firing of the injector and after start the crank sensor takes over. Thanks Robert

I kind of suspected the pats system because my understanding is it is controlled through the pcm. Now does anyone know how to disable it or jumper it an the pcm. Thanks Robert
Hold on to the Pats thought for a moment. You said the engine will run when you spray (TB or brake cleaner) into the throttle body. Does the engine continue to run, or do you have to keep spraying short bursts to keep the engine running? Now, onto the PATS. Did you take the PATS module or are you still using your original ignition switch and key etc? I have some thoughts on this one. If the engine starts after you spray a short burst of (BC or TB cleaner) and then continues to run WITHOUT spraying any more, then you almost certainly have a PATS problem. The engine/PCM in a 2001 Mustang has a type C PATS system and does NOT disable the starter circuit. In this type of system, engine control functions will NOT be disabled if the engine has been running at least for 1 or 2 seconds. The fuel injection circuit is enabled after 1 or 2 seconds of engine rune time WITHOUT a programmed PATS key. This would explain why the engine would start after spraying into the TB....that is if the engine DOES continue to run after spraying. If the engine refuses to continue running after the first spray, then it is NOT a PATS problem. Any engine stalls or performance issues after the engine runs while the key/ignition switch is left in ON position is NOT an issue with PATS system. Now, if you did not take the PATS module, then this would be a whole new issue. Does the THEFT light in the gauge cluster turn on or blink? This is NOT a cam sensor problem. The engine WILL run with the cam sensor unplugged, just wont be as speedy of a throttle response. This should help give you an idea of what could be going on....and that is an IF.....
LX-50 no I did not take the pats module from the 2000. I guess I should have read up a little more on all the potential issues . The engine and tranny combo with 30000 miles on it I couldnt pass it up for 900.00. The engine will run on spray as long as you are spraying into the throttle body but stall as soon as you stop. Is it possible it is because I have not installed the newer non return fuel system yet? I have all of the stainless fuel lines from the 2000 I havent installed yet. I am waiting until I can get my hands on a fuel tank fuel pump combo from a salvage yard. because of the environment laws most scrap yards puncture the tank to drain all the fuel before they part it out. I am wondering if the fuel pressure is too high and the module on the fuel rail is preventing the injectors from firing. I did not want to make this return type as the fuel lines were in rough rusted shape and the lines from the later models are stainless. I know there is a pressure module built onto the fuel pump that apparently causes the fuel pump to cycle to maintain a preset pressure. At least that is what I get from the wiring diagram. It only shows wiring and really doesnt show what happens with each circuit.
