Hey, I was just wondering about the horse power on the 98 V6. It says it only 150, is that true or is it underrated or what. 150 seems kind of weak for a 3.8 L. What about the 99's, why do the 99 V6's have like 190?? Isn't it something with the porting? Anyway thanks,
Yes, the 98's have 150hp (at the fly, less rwhp). 99+, greatest factor in the HP jump was the use of 'split-port' heads along with other enlargements in intake, meters, etc. And yes, it is weak for a v6.
This is true. There is definatly a big difference power wise between 96-98's and 99-04 v6's. Also, there is big difference between auto's and 5spd's with the 99+ v6's, more so than with GT's IMO. I have owned two 5.0's, both 95's, one 5-spd and the auto I now have. My GF has a modded 01 v6 5spd, and my parents have a 98 v6 auto as thier second car. There is a difference in performance between my 5.0's stock vs. stock, but the difference between the auto 98 v6 and the 01 5spd v6 is insane. 2 completly different cars.
Since you're probably going to ask this aswell. Your '98 V6 is a completely unique car, the engine is weird on it as well as a few other things that i'm not sure of. You may want to look into it a little bit more and no I don't know why for made them like this.
According to Road & Track my 2002 V6 has 193HP stock. The October issue of R&T is like the car owners bible. It lists all the cars (and cars only) engine sizes, HP, weight, optional engines, price, a small blurb about the car, Etc. See if you can find a back issue of Oct 98 and Oct 01+ of R&T. It'll give you more info so you can compare.
