OK I just purchased a 99 Black Cobra. I've read a lot about the "problems" with these cars. My question is #1) How do I find out if any of these recalls or fixes have been performed on my car. #2) The car only has 12,000 miles on it, if it is taken to a dealer, will they still perform any of the recalls without a charge?

Call 1-800-FORD-SVT...give them your VIN # and they can tell you.

If the "fix" wasn't already done, I believe you would have to pay for it now. Given that, all you should do is send you intake and have it extrude honed, get a good cat-back (after market), and a custom tune. You will be that much further ahead powerwise.

    :nice:

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me what the factory fix includes? Is the power problem in the intake? Also, when the car is cold, there is a noticable tapping noise in the left side of the motor, not like a rod, but maybe a lifter. Any ideas. I've also read that there was a problem with the heads. Do you know of a good place to have an intake extrude honed (I have access to several speed shops, but I don't think they extrude hone.) By the way I live in upstate South Carolina.

TXSnakeCharmer maintains a very comprehensive 1999 "cobra" website. He has a few handy links about what "the fix" consisted of:

    http://www.shane.roberts.net/cobra.htm

    http://www.shane.roberts.net/tech.htm

The page you want to look at for "the fix:"
    http://www.shane.roberts.net/techman1.htm
