My AC stopped working last summer on my 96 v6 and i had it checked out by a mech...they told me that there was a leak in the front of the compressor and that to fix/replace the system was going to cost me almost 2 grand to fix it. Does that figure sound resonable at all to you because it sounded way to high to me. After all i only paid 1200 for the car. Ive been looking on ebay for a compressor but the mech told me that i needed to replace everything in the system. So can yall tell me what parts i need to buy? ps im not planning on putting it on myself i just want an idea of the price for the parts
Rebuilt compressor with clutch is about $175 with core and freon would be about $35 with filling hose. If you have a air compressor you can get a Pull Down pump for $35 and do the complete job in 1 hr and for less than $250 and you even get some new tools out of the deal.
Yeah. Rip-off. Speedystang pretty much summed it up. Replacing a condensor is pretty simple and it's easy to get to. No worse than changing spark plugs, I'd say.
