advanced cam and smog test?

I need to replace the timing cover seal. So might as well replace the timing chain. The FRPP has 2 and 4 degree advance settings, would this affect the outcome of my smog test. The car needs to pass california smog sniffer. It will run better according to the seat of the pants test but would it be okay for the sniffer test?
