    Hi everyone,
i have a 97 mustang 3.8. The air quit working all of a sudden. When I turn on the air, the compressor doesn't engage but I hear a click which puts a load on the motor. This click cycles on and off as long as the air is on. It seems that when I unplug the wire going to the compressor the clicking stops.

The wire u unplugged is what engages the clutch on the comp. There should be a glass sight somewhere near the accumulator / receiver drier, if u c oil streaks that means it has too much oil or not enough freon. U might have a leak u can find it with a black light (I think) and u will c the freon additive. A normal A/C system engages / disengages the comp. every 10-15 sec's. Hope that helped :nice:

If your hearing a clicking and it feels like its putting the engine under load then the ac compressor is coming on. Other than the clutch on the compressor engaging there is nothing else in that system that will load the engine.
