Any ways I am a big Floyd fan. I am going tonight to go see the Austrlian Pink Floyd Show..Its a tribute band and the play and put on a show in a smaller scale of course just like pink floyd. Since they probably will never tour again this might be the closest i will get to seeing it live. I will let you guys know how it is so you can keep an eye out for it. I just found out about this band and decide to go check it out since they have even been complimented by Pink Floyd themselves.....
I went see a Pink Floyd tribute band a while back called "Us and Them, If was ****ing awesome. I love Pink Floyd.
There is a local band that also does the "tribute" thing here called El Monstero (sp?). Very nice...we used to have a lazer show at our science center that was stoped 10-12yrs ago due to the "people" it drew in. The tribute band does 2-4 shows a year and all sell out in no time. I like and have liked some of there songs for years. Some great covers are out there as well. Members of rage against the machine, soundgarden(I think) and others did a soundtrack cover to a movie called "the faculty" that is AWSOME, I have heard a few pearl jam half arse covers at the end of some songs, and korn did do a good cover as well
I never really cared for covers of Pink Floyd songs. Mainly becasue I just cant see any way they could be better than the original. But the cover I dislike the most would have to be The Foo Fighters cover of "Have a Cigar".
I dont think the covers are trying to be "better" than the orig. I dont think that is possible with Floyd. However, it is nice to see what bands do when they cover them. Some are good but more along the lines of how those artists would do it, and do it. While we are on covers...One of my all time favorite covers is Rage Against the Machine (big fan if you didnt notice) cover of NWA's #^ck the police.
i'm a big PF fan. that song from "the faculty" is "another brick in the wall" w/ Layne Staley on vocals. that's an awesome cover. i always thought it was funny how they hired David Gilmore to play the guitar parts live and how he wound up writing most of the better stuff, imho.
Syd was mostly brain damged after he left Floyd but good no theless..... The Show was purely BADA** I would definitely go check them out the place was going nuts.. It was as close to the real PINK as you get really the light show and inflatbles and 3 hrs of songs....WOW cant say enough.....
