I just pulled these numbers off a web address found reading another thread and can't believe what i found. Could this really be right? A complete born race car versus a stock grocery getter! Something must be wrong, anyone had a chance to stack up against a 1995 Cobra R? Year Make Model 0-60mph 1/4 Mile Time 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra R 5.2 13.80 2005 Ford Mustang GT 5.1 13.80 http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm
Actually, I think he meant it the other way around, being that Cobra R's were built for one purpose only, racing. They came stripped from the factory for weight savings, wheras the 05 GT would be considered the "grocery getter" in stock form having a more useful interior. That's what 10 years of improvements will get you though. Although, I don't know if this was more of another "stab" coming from an '05 owner with a superiority complex. Maybe you should compare your car to a real grocery getter, like an M5...or perhaps an Audi RS6 and tell me how high and mighty you feel then?
Exactly, it's been 10 years, I would expect some vast improvement as there was with the new Mustang. Heck, even your sig makes the point, look at all your mods and your times, then compare it to stock 05+ times. PS, I've got a nice "grocery getter" I'd love to run against you, and I don't mean my Mustang which has been used for grocery hauling
wow A little self defense here against my fellow carnivorous stangnet brotherhood. What I was leading to was that my thoughts lead towards the numbers must be off on the report for the Cobra R (Which by the way is the race car and my stang being the grocery getter, nix that(i've been educated), grocery hauler) alot like the numbers i heard about our S197 models 0-60 being just under 6 seconds from the guys on Top Gear. (i believe Road and Track tested a Coupe at 4.9 0-60 early in the year) We had i believe a 92 model Saleen, that was totally destroyed by the Cobra R back in the day, and i couldn't believe that those times could be accurate. I found that to be off just a bit and thought maybe i would hear from someone who had some experience against an "R" or maybe someone who had both ponies in their stable. To quote Pink Floyd "Is there anybody out there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home?" That can answer one of those questions?
According to SVT the 1995 Cobra R had a 5.8 liter/ 351 cid V8, which produced 300 HP and 365 lbs of torque. It had the top speed of 154 mph and did 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. They only made 250 of them, all being white. According to Car & Driver the 2005 Mustang GT has a 4.6 liter/ 281 cid V8, which produces 300 hp and 320 lbs of torque. It has a top speed of 143 mph and does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. With those numbers you can see how they would be very close.
Perfect response quote. He'll be here all weekend folks! Don't forget to tip your waiter. Good night, Texarkana!
The Cobra R was designed to outhandle everything on anything BUT the 1/4 - even though those 1/4 times were more than decent for a production car 10 years ago. Even today it would hand the new Stang its butt on the twisties.
Don't know about that, it's far to big and heavy and there are plenty of other cars which would easily show the R it's tail lights and by using far less bhp too.
