I was wondering how well the run compared to the 5spd as the auto is a 5spd: 4+OD. I am not sure, but guess that MAYBE its the same trans as in the v8 explorer? Anyone shed any light?

    T-bird/LS unit

GT ATX is from T-Bird/Lincoln LS.

It works great. 99.9% as fast as manual

    Highly reommended

PS, shift lever on ATX looks great

test drove a red gt with auto today. while I want a stick, the only gt the dealer had was an auto so I drove it. the auto was real real nice. shifted great, smooth and nails you into the seat.

Cool, I heard just now from a friend who test drove one and he hates autos. But he actually said he would drive this one as it seems to run great...

My wife and I just got back from test driving an 05 GT automatic, white with red leather seats. The car in one word is Amazing! I've owned a 96 supercharged Saleen and a 00 GT also both with a stick shift. This new car is so refined, that's why it doesn't seem as fast to most people. However it is by far faster than any stock GT mustang I have driven. The automatic tranny is super quick and keeps the engine in the power band great. It also drives so very very smooth compared to the old platform. It is really hard to tell if the rear end is live axle or independent because of how well the engineers have tuned it. I cannot wait to buy one myself but I have to wait for our house to be built before getting a new car loan. Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts on this amazing new car, great job ford!  :hail2: :hail2: :hail2:

I expect delivery of my GT here in England within 3 -4 weeks. Should have been on the boat yesterday - hope so. I ordered the auto, even though most vehicles here in UK and manual - looking to have fun and turn some heads, it will be one of the first 05's over here so can't imagine the response!

Do any of you have know if Ford plans to implement a "manumatic" transmission into the 05 Stang? I've driven manuals for the past six years (93 Prelude and 2k Stang GT), and just recently I've moved to the LA area and the traffic is killing me lol.

I have not heard of any plans to put it in the Mustang, but Ford has all the required hardware and software sitting on a shelf. The Lincoln LS uses the same ATX and has Ford's version of a manumatic, called "SST" or Select Shift Transmission".

The only thing that I can assume is since the Mustang has a MTX available Ford marketing does not see the need for a "Manumatic" shifter on the ATX.
