my buddy swapped his 93 GT to 5 speed last week...what a difference it made....auto's really do kill the 5.0 in performance and fun factor... he has a total of 350 into the 5 speed swap including the trans.. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/ed51d2b3-e3fd-4575-8221-99b701094d10.htm
yeah as of right now....im thinking it may be more wise to put off doing a top end on my car in spring...im thinking i may just wait till summer then a few days into summer take the stang out and do some 5k neutral to drive with the auto till it breaks....get the stang home and swap it to 5 speed...i made a deal with my dad that when the auto goes...another auto aint going back into it... i figure in the summer i can afford to have my car off the road for a few days...... im still trying to figure out what im going to do when my car its painted early 08....i may be forced to wait till summer as well because if i do it in spring ill have no other car to drive...unless i can talk my dad into him driving his mustang for a few weeks as i drive his ranger....he don't like me driving his stang..since he bought it in 04 i think ive drove it a total of 5 times...... idk....alot of **** to figure out i guess
Your best bet (at your age) is to sit and discuss it with your dad. Talk about when the car will get painted, maybe figure in time for the swap, and see what the options are for driving other vehicles. I got lucky I worked enough I was able to get another car, but some people can't do that, and need their one car all the time.
i really dont want to buy another car....reason being...thats taking money away from the stang... and talking...well that dont work...every time i try and talk to him i get a what the **** do you want now... there's no use in talking to him...
Ryan, I came into this thread thinking you did a swap! But I was wrong You need to do one and wake that thing up!
Automatics can be a lot of fun. My car is a factory 5 speed but i got it with a C4 in it, and it was a blast. The car was a real handful because when you were spinning in 1st and slapped it into second, there was NO delay or RPM drop and it would just slam the rear end into the other direction and then again when you hit 3rd. Of course a C4 isn't an AOD though. In the end i wouldn't go back...i'm a 5 speed guy at heart.
yeah..aod are no fun...1-d-1 is fun but not the best on the trans...come 08 maybe summer of 08 im taking the stang out back and putting the thing in a N revving to 5 and holding it there then slamming it into 1st... who wants to start betting? how many time you think its going to take for the the trans to break? im thinking about 8 times... bets?
Yeah my buddy's GT was a factory AOD car, and even with a shift kit it was a slug. Of course i'm not saying all AOD cars are slow because that's just silly, but his car got considerably faster with the 5 speed. If i had a track only car i'd probably go with a built C4, but that's only if i was trying to win and make money with it. For fun i'll always have a 5 speed....it connects you with the car better than an automatic.
