Yes Ive used searched and even posted this question before. BUT, Do you think that my dealer can do it for me ..?? Is the question. I leave for Afhganistan very soon and would like it done while im gone ! THanks. Money wont be an issue as far as the cost for the swap.

I think you would be better off in many ways to just trade cars.

Like they say above It really would be easier to trade. If your serious then wear out the auto while you got it. :)

You'll have a hard time getting a dealership to do custom work like that for you. Better off to find a speed shop that specializes in mustangs to do it or "take it to Anthony"...hehe, I like that one. I wouldn't beat on the auto because you could probably recoup some of that cash output you used for the swap. I'm in the same boat but I just haven't finished the swap and no I don't think it would be easier to swap cars. When I bought mine, I got 0% for 72 and there were no manuals to be found so it is much cheaper to do it this way.

Am I missing something here, the 5r is the best programmed trans that Ford has thrown into anything.

I would throw a stall in the thing, gear, slicks and go run 12's. CAI and a tune and X pipe for mid 12's.

Then you go set up a few races at the track and say, oh well, it's only an automatic how fast can it be?

Looking at your combo, the only thing your missing is a complimentary converter.

Shifter... the last 06 and 08GT's I have had the opportunity to flog shifted right at 6 through the first three gears... stock for stock, compared to an AOD, the 5R is heaven sent.

Oh dont get me wrong,The new auto is quite amazing... But the crappy stock shifter its soooo EASY to miss shift . It dosnt lock in place ever in 3,2 ,1 it just sits there. The new AUTO shifter bye TCI has a lock in place and you have to press the release to move it. It just looks more secure in the way of you dont over shift and or have a gear slip !

It's funny but the 5r is now the best tranny ford has for an auto and it's variant used to be a C3 the hardest tranny to repair.

I gave up a supercharged pimped out '07 GT because it was an auto.

My buddy paid $4200 to convert his auto to a 5spd (that's right not even a 6spd for that cash!)

    MANUAL.

Maybe I'll see ya when ya get here if ya end up in Kunar area . . . Woooooo Hoooooo

As for your question . . . If ya really want a stick, I would most likely agree with some of the others who said trade up but I would take it one step further . . . Sell the car before ya leave . . . save the bank from deployment, come home and buy a 2010 6spd. But that's just IMO. What do I know, just a dumb grunt . . . :uzi:

I like the manual transmission better. I tuned my 4R70W so that there's almost no delay doing manual shifts, but it still just doesn't feel the same as rowing the gears myself.

4200 is a steep price for a swap. mine will be around 1500 by the time I am done but then again, I do my own work.

you could always send to a fellow GI to take of it for you and do the labor for free... :) hehehe
