Whats up guys Well I have an interview at best buy this friday....anyone ever work there before? Maybe after I get this I can start saving for a gt40p build...theres so many good deals on ebay and the corral that I have to keep passing up...
Thanks...I'm pretty good with pc repairs/technician but I think they are just gonna make me do something like sales...since they probably won't believe me if I tell them..just like every other 17 year old tells them. Maybe I can ask for a test or something.
My brother used to work there. Pretty good deals, especially on insurance. Which means everything you buy will now have a $4 two-year warranty. But other than that, I am sure you will be working register. Maybe stock shelves. I don't think they will let you do repairs without some kind of prior job experience/degree/tech school. But who knows. GL
work there for 2yrs,04 and 05.I went for sales, but i got the backroom(stocking and unloading trucks). You are probably getting hired as seasonal. This is the time of year when they hire for seasonal. You will get some good hours during this time.when jan. comes up they will decide if they will keep you. When march comes up expect 20-30 hours every 2 weeks. The good thing about working there were meeting the new people, they hire a lot of young kids that like to party. Also you get really good discounts on tv,and the car audio stuff.Good luck with the interview.
I worked there from Nov. 2003 - last August. As said, you're probably going to be hired as seasonal. That's how I got hired. Just do the work and they'll keep you if they can. If you work in sales or operations(registers) good luck. Honestly, you won't get paid enough and you'll be under a lot of pressure to sell stuff people don't want. I got through it by not giving a ****. It can be a fun job if you make it fun and don't let the mangement's BS get to you. If you want to move up in the company, you're what they want. I was there for a part-time college job. I held the longest part-time position in my store when I quit; everyone else had either left or moved to full-time. They just saw me as lazy and unmotivated. I guess I'm not motivated as I didn't really want to wear a blue shirt for the rest of my life. If you can get into Geek Squad do that. The money is in services and there is less pressure to sell BS service plans. If you do Geek Squad or Home Theater install, the service has already been sold, and you get specialty(more $$$) pay for doing an easier(IMO) job. Funny my 3 of my 4 roommates still work at BBY and we were just talking about work there. I may actually be going back if I can get into an install position. In 2004 the employee discount on service plans was raised from being only 20% to 60% of the price. I also think they recently went up again since I quit. I remember buying an entire system for my car the week before they raised the price in '04. Also when I worked there, parents could use your discount but not siblings(MY parents got some pretty nice things). Now they have taken it away from parents, and given it to children of Employees up to 21(used to be up to 18) How many BBY employees have kids 18-21? And how many have parents? Yea, they're bastards. All in all, it can be fun and you'll get a good discount for yourself(even though that's slowly changing). Good Luck.
Really? Children of employees. That is retarded. I do remember it was the parents, and all you needed was some number. Ok, I take back what I said about the discount.
Wow it all sounds good. I guess I will be hired as seasonal...so I can expect sales. I do have prior job experience, I work for my school district in the technology dept, repairing pc's, networking etc. But I think for the geek squad (which would be great) you need to be a+ certified. Ah well, we shall see how it goes! Looking forward to the discounts as well
Well I think I got the job...interview went good. I think its a seasonal job though. Computer sales w00t.
I used to work at Bestbuy sophomore year to junior year of highschool. haha w/o it I wouldn't have had the money to buy my car. I sold digital cameras. You got an interview, that's very good news. A LOT of the time, if they don't want you they aren't going to call for an interview. 80% that you're going to get the job. When they ask what department you want to work in, just say "which ever one has an opening." I became pretty technology savy after working there, I didn't know what a usb was before, LOL.
Yes. It was Forbes Company of the Year in 2004. You all may have some up there but their other chain Future Shop may be a little more common. FYI: Best Buy also owns FYE and Sam Goodie. That's why those places are so expensive($18 for a damn cd). The reasoning is you will go to BBY instead but will also buy other stuff on top of the cd/movie you wanted. If you don't want to go into to BBY, then you're still paying them $18 for a cd, $24 for a movie. Investor thought BBY execs were crazy for buying the smaller chains just to drive customers away from them, but BBY made tons of money using this strategy.
Best Buy = future shop for us...well Ontario at least. they usually carry the same products. kinda silly. in Cambridge there's a futureshop and a best buy within 2km of eachother.
