In everybody's opinion who makes the overall best coaxial speakers. I was thinking about Infinity's Kappas but I do not know much about them. What is the advantage of components over coaxials?
I can't tell you who makes the best coaxles because there is no such thing. I have heard good things about kappa's.. I'm sorry I am not of much use to you as I have not heard many co-axles as of late. My friend has a set of coaxle alpines in his car.. they are decent.. you get what you pay for... Might as well save up a bit more and get a nice component set, it's worth it in the end. Comparing a good component set to coaxles is like comparing day and night. Don't waste your money on co-axles. That is all.
Coaxils are not neccesarily worse than components, but you can get better imaging from components than coaxils if they're properly set up. Here's some to look into: Alpine Type R JL VR/XR Eclipse Focal Access Eclipse CDT(might not be enough midbass, mostly used for rear fill) CDT Braxials Boston Acoustics That's a few, but there are a lot more I'm with DaFeared, though and I'd recommend components if you have the time to install them correctly. They'll usually take more power than coaxils, and they usually are more accurate.
^^^^^^^^^ I agree with that, also Rainbow and surprisinlgly Fosgates high end sound pretty good. I have eXcelon's and am very pleased.
Coaxials can actually have better imaging than components because they act better as a point source of sound. But in a car they can be hard to set up correctly, and with components you can compromise more easily to get good imaging. To add to your list; Image Dynamics makes some excellent component speakers where the tweeter can be mounted coaxially with the woofer. As for the original question; it is best for you to listen to as many different coaxial speakers as you can and get the one that you like the best. There is no advantage to components versus coaxials in terms of how one has a separate tweeter and the other has it mounted coaxially. But for car audio use, components are usually said to be better because they usually use better speakers and crossovers but they are also more expensive. Many people assume that components are always better because they usually are; but you can't compare them this way because components are usually more expensive too. Choosing between the two mainly depends on how much money you want to spend. If your price range is low and there are many coaxials to choose from and only some components, choose the speaker that sounds the best, and don't worry whether it is coaxial or uses separate components, that part doesn't make a difference.
i have Memphis Audio 2002 model Studio 6.5 Coaxials. They have an inline crossover for the tweet and the tweeter is on a swivel..they sound bee-ut-iful being powered by my Kicker 700.5 joseph
BOOM!!!!!!!!!!! Hence the reason I said comparing component sets and coaxles is like comparing day and night. Look at my setup, if coaxles were any good, I would have them in my car, but I don't, cuz they're not.
Coaxial or triaxial or even quadraxial speakers are speakers of convenience and ease of installation. They appeal to the masses who just want a drop in replacement that is better than stock. In some I've heard that doesn't always happen. In general, they have very poor crossover components for the above given reasons. That is, in comparison to what they can be(like in a high end component set) when space and cutting corners is not an issue. Having said that, there obviously is a market for these speakers for the fact that each of us places a different amount of importance on sound quality. And some of us are perfectly happy with a set of $49 Pioneers from WallyWorld. There are reasons speakers cost $49 and other, seemingly similar speakers cost 10 times as much, and almost all those reasons have to do with quality in parts and in the manufacturing process. All this is not to say there aren't some 2 or 3-way speakers that are pretty decent, because there are a few, but they are not "high end".
I have MB Quart coaxes in the back of my 91. They sound great and you would be hard pressed to find a "nicer" set of coax speakers. However, they are totally drowned out by the components that I have in front which is to be expected.
yeah.. they would be good for rear fill but I think it's hard to measure their true potential unless they are up front...
