I got a 2002 3.8L coupe, and have been considering the Pypes exhaust... but I was wondering if there is any other good exhausts, that is loud and good throaty sounding, which also has the following, and catted or off-road x-pipe, and has a dual tips, with chrome, not the ones that just point down towards the ground like a stock v6 exhuast, one that looks like a V8, if it gives you a better picture...

I also need to know of the risk I would be taking of gettin an off road x-pipe, how often do i have to get my car tested, I live in the state of Washington, a link to a site would help out great, but I have no clue, where to start about this, but I do realise that an offroad x would be better than catted, it is also cheaper...

    What should I do?

No emissions yet for your car. Washinton only requires emission testing for vehicles between 5 and 24 years old in Clark, King, Pierce, Snohomish and Spokane counties. Once the car hits 5 years old (2007) and you live in those counties, then you have to get tested every odd year (2007, 2009, 2011 and so on), and you need the cats to pass. How much power are you expecting? A cold air intake gives more hp than getting rid of the cats looses, your talking a horsepower or 2, plus it'll make the exhaust sound raspy and without longtubes, it'll sound bad. Raspy, popping, and overly loud, possibly even illegally loud which could get you pulled over, cop notices no cats and could give you a ticket.

I actualy live in King county, I think i'll just get catted X-pipes, but I am thinking a little less than 30 hp gain, and what kind of CAI would you recommend with a new throttle body any throttle from 70-90mm?

Thanks for the emissions info, but now that I know, I am only getting catted X-pipes, in that case what would be a good brand, set up or etc....?

    Thanks TMX

Pypes high flow cats are good, and barely loose any power. Exhaust brands is really a matter of opinion. I am getting dual 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust with Flowmaster 40s done in a few weeks at a shop, because the flows are the low, rumble muffers. It seems most people like Mangaflow, Flowmaster, Mac, and Pypes for the nice throtty sound with a few others mixed in. https://www.rpmoutlet.com/newv6m.htm Option D is $550 and is the catted-x with cat-back as well if you want to go with Pypes.

Don't bother with a larger throttle body unless you port your intake to match the throttle body. As far as intake, you could just drop a K&N replacement in and remove the air silencer (it's attached to the box and goes inside the fenderwell), or if you like the look of fenderwells, Ebay has some good cheap ones, MAC and BBK are nice chrome, and there are straightshots and the K&N FIPK, but they all offer the same 2-5hp gain, I got about 2-3 rwhp and close to 8-10 torque gains from mine.

oh ok, thanks. I got an CAI from eBay, and it didn't do too hot, it drained my battery, and made my engine sound weird, so i removed it, I am gonna save up and get a good like Steeda, or something i know that I can trust like a BBK, or K&N... I have seen the Option D on rpmoutlet.com but the dual tips, are bent down like the stok V6, and I want tips that stick straight out, just like a GT, and I am already getting a GT bumper soon, painted and installed myself, so i can fit a dual exhaust, I think i am gonna look up flowmaster and Magnaflow as well as mac... thanks a lot TMX

Yeah I think i'll have to buy that system from pypes and just get their tips, cuz they have a couple different tips i wouldn't mind having, and just saw or cut off the part that bends and just put the tips right on cuz it says they slide/pop right in place... with the catted x pipe... thanks guys
