when I got my boost gauge I went with the Autometer Carbon Fiber Mechanical 30 in hg. / 20 psi. gauge. Everything worked fine for almost a year then it started reading wrong. When the car was off it would read 2 pounds of boost, which meant when the car was on it was reading 2 pounds too high. Today I went to take it off to see if there was an adjustment on the back of it to try to re-zero it. When I got it off the boost needle just fell completly off. I cant seem to find a way to open it to fix it. So my question is, is there a way to fix it or do I just have to get a new guage. If I have to get a new gauge should I go with an electrical gauge as opposed to a mechanical gauge. Has anyone else had this problem and what kind of gauges do you have? should i just go with a cheap gauge? -Ryan-
Yeah, I'd do the same. Even if you don't get anything out of it, let them know whats going on. Now I'm hesitant on buying one from them. I don't know if it was you Ryan, but I saw a post/reply yesterday with the same problem.
Dude, you shoulda just left it alone! ALL boost gauges do that after awhile. They don't reset to zero when the car is off, but that doesn't matter. As soon as you start the car it will "fix" itself. You're gonna have to buy yourself a new boost gauge now.
I sent my 5" tach to them when it burnt out. Somehow the ground wire fell off and it wouldnt work anymore. They fixed it for free. Then the one they sent me started reading wrong. i sent that one back and they replaced it for $15. They treated me well. Send it back and have it fixed.
it's a mechanical gauge meaning it would not have "fixed" itself. It had been doing it for a while. Mechanical gauges do not have an auto-zero funtion like digital gauges do. When the car was started it would read 2in/hg less than it should and under boost it would read 2 pounds boost more than it should. The needle was falling off the pin and was spinning without it. It would have only gotten worse. I think I'm gonna buy a cheapo gauge for the time being and then get a digital autometer when i can afford it. thanks -Ryan- -as for sending it back.... I tried to fix it my self and screwed it up more.. ohh well...
Oh. Well you didn't mention that. Mine is off a bit but it doesn't read wrong when the car is running so I don't worry about it.
Digital Autometer is the way to go if you can afford it.. Little pricey for me right now. I like the Cobalt and Cobalt2 series gauges.
