last night after driving my car(97cobra) to a friend's house i noticed a burning oil smell which only got worse on the way home, just before i got home i could see smoke coming from under the hood. i had it on the high side of the power band pretty frequently last night, but i've never seen this before. i just changed the oil with motorcraft oil and filter less than a thousnad miles ago. does anyone have any experience with this problem? any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Smelled it...yes, saw smoke...no.

If you can see smoke from under the hood, you've got oil getting out of the engine. Check for leaks or PCV system condition.

How many miles on the engine? The worst case is worn rings or valve guides/seals blowing oil out the dipstick or PCV.

I think I read a thread here about installing a crankcase breather to make up for the weak PCV at higher rpms.
