The current CAI debate is fairly heated and filled with subjectives, but I'd like to hear from pure tech people who can give some documented hard data on what a CAI will/will not give you.

I'm laying plans to get my car blown soon, but am hugely interested in this debate, and it seems that a lot of other people are too - whether they're for or against them.

From a purely logical (and neutral!) position, I would be very surprised to hear that cylindrical air filters (staying away from the "Cold-air" argument), coupled with the appropriate tune didn't provide some appreciable hp, ASSUMING that the filter surface area of the cylinder is greater than that of the stock filter. This would allow for a greater volume of air to be fed to the engine than the stock box would allow (think fat straw v's thin straw). This being the case, the a/f would change, requiring the aforementioned tune.

SO, this is my question - has anyone dyno'd a car stock, put the "CAI" in, tuned ONLY the a/f and then re-dyno'd? If so, what numbers?

Also, does anyone know the TOTAL breathable surface area of stock/replacement drop-ins v's any of the CAI filters (total as in measured if pulled flat)?

    Gracias!

Alternative Auto has a dyno before and after with a C&L CAI ... 11-12RWHP gain

    been there done that

i tuned my car with the c and L system

i then removed the c and l system and retuned for proper air fule with my stock box

net result the c and l system was worth aproximately 12 horsepower vs stock box and tune.

what i posted in that thread is not opinion i am a partner in murillo motorsports it was learned from actual results from dynoing literaly hundreds of various makes and models with cold air intakes on them .
