I sold a 88 2.3 mustang to a guy who turned it into a circle track car and he is trying to get more power. He already switched it to a carbed setup and didn't gain anything. I told him a cam from a Ranger was suppost to help a little. Can anyone tell me what year Ranger cam is the one he needs or reccomend what cam I should tell him to use.

They are about the same. The only addvantage you get using them is there is less friction which equals more power, but thats really it

If the guy is racing circle track and he doesn't know how to make power with the 2.3, he shouldn't be racing it.

There's no such thing as "cheap" in circle track racing with a 2.3L. He isn't gonna find anything in the junkyard that's gonna help him at all.

Tell him he better buckle down and open his wallet, because if he wants to make any power at all, he's gotta have the head ported and milled, and have a big cam installed at the very LEAST...along with a good header and some other small items.

can't do any porting or milling. He isn't afaraid to spend money just the rules say needs to be stock but he can run whatever cam he wants I think... it is already competitive but the little VW's and a few CRX's there that are lighter and can pull away from him. I don't know what gears he is using maby that's part of the problem....He has been into rasing longer than I have been alive (I'm 24 and he has been racing for 57 years) and he is just doing this to get his 2 daughters into the sport.

his website is here and the mustang I sold him is in there now the current circle track car.

Then I dunno, tell him to call Esslinger and talk to them and tell them what he's doing....I'm sure they can make him a recommendation.
