White smoke? sounds like a blown head gasket

The white smoke could be either steam from a blown head gasket or the car's burning oil. Check your coolant to see if it's still clear, and check your oil for coolant (little bubbles in the oil). If they're both OK then you can continue diagnosing the problem.

When the check engine light flashes, it means the computer detects a misfire. The misfire trouble code will be posted for retrieval, but when the light's flashing, it means the engine has a misfire right at that moment.
