Hey, the other day I drove into work and all my coworkers were telling me how loud my car sounded. I don't really notice it from the inside unless I listen closely for it, but outside (or with the windows down in a parking deck) it has a whining sound. I can't really pinpoint where its coming from under the hood. I also hear an unusual amount of creeking when I turn lately. Could this be interrelated, like a power steering pump? It's a 95 with 68k miles on it. Also are there any other symptoms to look for if a power steering pump is going, and how long will I have before it gives me real problems? -Dubbs
check your tie rod ends, my car used to be really loud ('98 V6 w/ aboutu 70,00 miles) when i'd steer, my tie rod ends were really rusted, i put new ones on w/ grease zurks and the problem is solved
Make sure there is enough tranny fluid in the PS pump resevoir, if not top it up and it should quite down a bit.
Tranny fluid in the PS pump??? I always buy the power steering pump fluid, I didnt know they were the same...
