Cool thanks. I will join those two wires tonight when I get home and hope for the best. I feel good to get rid of that clunky old alarm out of the car too. Progress feels good
Ok, so that didn't fix it like I was hoping for. Damn I went ahead and checked the relay again and the only pin that was getting power was number 30. I did not check the MLPS due to my wife not getting home till later tonight and my voltmeter wires just aren't long enough. Anything else I can try or look at?
I'm almost cetain that number 30 is your constant battery power. What you need is one of those to be hot when you turn the key. I think power would run from the ign. switch to the MLPS and then to that little jumper under the dash, then into the engine bay to the underhood fuse panel. It's a real simple system. You need to start at the ign. switch and work your way under the car to check the MLPS. If it's not sensing nuetral or park, it won't let the car be started. That's another thing, have you messed with the shifter to make it start? Like hold the key in "start" and move the shifter up and down? Make sure you're in a clear spot with nothing in front or behind you in case it starts in gear!
Ok. I tried to get my hands inbetween the exhaust and the body of the car to check the MLPS wires and that's not going to happen. However, the car has been starting with the key every once in a while for some reason. Any thing else I can check?
Did you ever try to move the shifter around while trying to start it? If that works then you just need to adjust the linkage a bit.
Hey again, Yes I did move the shifter like you said. It turns on more now with the key instead of the button, but I think you are right and the linkage needs to be looked at and adjusted. One of these days I have some free time I'll look under it and reinstall the MLPS sensor and look at the linkage.
Hey i have the same problem Sometimes it just won't start, turn the key everything works i can hear the fuel pump but nothing happens no click. the only thing is when the door is open with key in or out the chime is on. sometimes if i keep turning it on and off it will finally start.
Any luck with your starting issue? I picked up a very clean 93 GT the other day. Has a couple issues with it. One of them I've never heard of before and for me to say that is weird because Ive been around foxbodies for 13 years. When you turn the key to the start position it just keeps turning over and wont start, but as soon as you let go of the key(like when you do when it usually starts) it starts up, haha. Don't ask my why cause I have no clue. Have you ever heard of an issue like that? One of the first things that came to mind was the recall on the ignition switch. The car does have an aftermarket alarm installed which im sure splices into the starting wires somewhere on the column. Any ideas anyone?
I'm guessing your ignition switch is going bad. Sounds like it's not giving the coil power in "start" but the coil is getting power in "run". Since the engine is spinning from the starter when you pull the key back to the run position, it is enough to start when the coil finally comes online. I say throw another ignition switch in there and see where you're at. They are very cheap and can be swapped in about 30 minutes.
