I spoke with Joe at Chicane about this awhile back. You will have an increase in HP and torque from changing it to the more efficent intercooler.
The real change will be in getting the car retuned and bumping up the timing
safely with this more efficent intercooler. He said around 30HP gain. I recommend checking the total cost of everything and see if its worthwhile to you.:D

I bought the intercooler from Chicane a while back and installed it with the help of some friends!
    Intercooler- $715 shipped
    installation- $0
having your friend break of 2 bolts in the driver side head- priceless!!!
    getting the bolts removed- $40

While i had the intake off, i decided to hand port it a little and gasket match it as well. I have a small write up about it on corral.net under the 387HP saleen thread. Im glad I bought it. Even without the tune(comming soon!), I can tell a difference! Espically on the top end! Hope this helps. Scott

Joe's intercooler is worth the money for the gain but even more so for the insurance.

I have the intercooler and it was 1200 with install at Chicane. It netted me 50hp at the wheels but my car was pinging bad back then and they actually took timing out of it after the install. Can't wait to get it back on a dyno now that the engines rebuilt.

I've spoken to Joe about this as well. I think Marcus is right on, the insurance is the best part. Joe said it's not mandatory that you get a tune, but recommends it regardless. I was considering porting my blower and adding an intercooler. I'm thinking I would like to keep the stock pulley on to keep the heat down within the blower and motor. I just have a series 1 on my car. My demolot (densecharger) intake actually dropped my intercooler h20 temp. In a 70 degree day my blower water temp barely registers while driving. I wish I knew the air temp going into the motor though!

Let me save you some money! While Joes intercooler is good, the majority of the improvement is from eliminating the gaps the existing setup has. This can be solved for less than a hundred dollars. Buy a piece of Phenolic plastic on ebay. I used Grade LE Phenolic Sheet / Plate .050" x 24" x 47" You can easily trim this stuff with a jig saw and a dremel. Make a plate that tightly fits into the upper opening of the intake, then cut out a hole for air to flow through the fins of the intercooler. Trim areas where needed to get it to lay flush. Even with the 66mm pulley I never see intake temps over 140

I was up a Joe's Shop a few weeks back (What a nice and very knowledgeable guy) asking questions about getting some mods done to my car, the intercooler he has for the saleen blower that Mike had suggested to get, etc... when I mentioned to him that my cars intercooler gauge needle always seems to be leaning towards the right of the gauge at around 170 (meaning either the gauge is wrong or the intercooler is running hot or both!) He had me pop the hood and he put his hand on the Saleen intercooler resivor tank, let me tell you he was shocked when he dam near burned his hand off right off! He said that it should feel cool and not blazing hot like it did and that I had a major problem that must be fixed ASAP! Well, let me tell you what he found out after trying to flush the intercooler lines out! No fluids were intercooling my blower! The lines were completely stopped up like a toilet, ( Thats what they literally looked like) he said he had never seen anything that badly plugged up before, No fluid was going through the manifold to Cool the blower! Thank god, I have been driving this car short distances since I acquired it in December and driving it like a little old grandma! He was so shocked about his findings that he catalogged a bunch of digital pictures on what it looked like and said they will be on his website in the near future for why people should replace out the intercooler lines! He replaced the Intercooler lines with his trick stainless steel ones and I figured since he was solving that problem I might as well have him check my blower out! I ended up having him place his intercooler in! I got to watch, help and learn how to do this, as I was at his shop all day long and although he had other projects going on, he dropped them all to get me hooked up! He new I had driven a few miles to get there and that I've always taken my cars to XMP so he was anxious to crank it out eventhough he was by himself! He took tons of pictures, that he said he will eventually get on his site to show people how to install the New Intercooler into your Saleen Manifold! Now for the best part, Can I just say WOW:jaw: what a difference in performance!!! Night and day difference! It feels like a new engine is in my car and although I still haven't gotten in to it, the car runs drastically better and the intercooler gauge registers at no higher than around 120! I highly recommend this item and although its hard to guage on my car because the blower wasn't getting cooled properly in the first place I've driven a few other supercharged saleens before buying this one and it now runs very strong!!! ( One very interesting note I might add is that when driving my car before Joe fixed this, it would go into the boost right away and register on the boost gauge! Robert let me drive his S351 one day back from Brandy's work and he drove my car and said the boost went up to 7! Now with the Joes intercooler in it seems like you really have to get into it to register some boost on my gauge but with even saying this my car seems a thousand times faster than what it was before! I heard that registering some boost on the Saleen boost gauge and using some boost on an automatic Supercharged car is alot different then the manual tranny's!!! Anyways, my point of my story here is that if you plan on keeping your car and want it to run efficient and strong, it makes sense to purchase the intercooler and install it!! I would be willing to bet anyone that does this will be very satisfied! I highly recommend Joe's intercooler! Tell him you heard about Todd's Gold S281SC and maybe he'll give you a deal on the intercooler! And or the Pulley!! I'm one happy customer here! Next, is S-Porting my blower, powdercoating the manifold and blower installing the 66mm pulley and retuning my car! Any suggestions on tuning with SCT Excal II vs Predator???

    Right. :D

Just like I said, if you are going to keep your car the hp increase will be nominal but the added insurance that you will have is priceless.

Yea i did a install on a guys car last febuary now he added the mid length headers too without a retune his car made 400hp to the wheels with the new intercooler. Its a nice piece thats for sure im going to get one for my gt Im trapping 116mph now bet i pick up 1-2 mph with that intercooler. I see 130 temps on the dyno in 4th gear on a 55 deg day. 80-90 im up to 160 and thats out of boost.
