My '99 v6 started making this loud squeeling noise every time i depress the clutch. It happened almost instantaniously after a long drive, the clutch has never slipped, it just randomly did this. I can feel the clutch actually moving on its own while out of gear. While in gear, the squeal is sporatic, but overall it sounds like something is scraping that shouldnt be. I'm guessing my clutch is gone. The last car I owned, when the clutch was starting to go, it just started slipping. I just have a feeling that something really bad just happened. Also with the clutch, for the last year or so, whenever it was depressed it would make a sound as if I were streaching a spring. That would go away periodically, just like many of the noises that randomly pop up in my car.... So if anyone can give me a tip on what the problem is, and probably how much you think its going to cost me, I'll be appreciative.
I'll just throw in another problem I've been having, since the clutch noise was a prelude to it breaking. My stearing wheel vibrates every now and then, too much to be just because of the road. The rate of it's vibration does vary with speed, however i do not believe it is cause by the tire's misalignment because the vibration comes and goes. I've already been through one stearing pump, but when that went out, it was pretty sudden. Whatever, I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas about that or if I need to worry about it.
ill just throw some ideas out there, #1 Throw out bearing for the squeaking, and for the spring noise, i know what your talking bout cuz my car does that, i think its somethin to do with the clutch fork or release bearing, (throw out) #2 could be alot of things, tires balanced?, wheel bearing, ball joints, power steering fulid? Hope some of this could help
Squeeling is most likely the Throw out bearing, the part is cheap(like 20 bucks) its the labour that will kill you. But if your gonna change the TOB, then do the clutch while your there, if it isn't slipping then it isn't the clutch. Buy a clutch kit and you get the bearing with it, for like 200 to 300 bucks. Because they have to drop the tranny to get to the bearing it is right there with the clutch that is why the labour is lots, to get a clutch Plate, TOB, and disc with labour it is like ~700 bucks. The vibration is most likely a wheel balance issue, go to a tire shop ask them to balance the front tires only, its like 7 bucks a tire. See if that fixes it, if not get the steering aligned.
it can be any number of items its best to replace all of the items since most are cheap anyway. resurface the flywheel, replace the clutch disk, pressure plate, replace the pilot bearing, throw out bearing, bearing retainer sleve, fork arm, pivot ball stud, and get a traned mech. to do it and you should be good to go. I faught with ford for a year due to every time they would put a new throw out bearing in it would go bad asap.... finally they replaced it all adn its been good to do since. you will thank your self for replacing it all and not having to go back and redo it a bit later.
