i continued my tearing down of the motor to install my cam.....so i had to my t-stat housing off to pull my water pump and i found out that the housing didn't have a gasket or a t-stat in it....i was like wtf....it had the rubber gasket sealant on the outside of it...i was wondering how it was sealed....mmmmm still a mystery....
Thats odd... its one of those things that can be quite annoying to get to seal properly. Your car must've taken quite some time to reach operating temperature without the thermostat.... and how was your gas mileage?
i've done it also...but there wasn't any of the rtv between the housing and the lower intake....just on the outside...i didn't see hardly any on top, but on the bottom it was caked on....
so someone put the housing on.....tightened it and then sealed around the housing where it made contact with the lower intake?!?!? i would be scared to see what else that hack did to that car lol ..... a friend of mine bought a 65 gto and the previous owner put sawdust in the oil pan to thicken it up and show it had pressure lol it was the most cobbled piece of crap i have ever seen he got sooo hosed lol
