Hey guys my girlfriend just bought a 93 Lx coupe and it has a 4cyl Non turboed motor in it. The other day when i first drove it i realized the RPM guage didn't work and that the check engine light was on. So i have a couple of questions. How great is the Acceleration on a 4cyl. mustang. I have a five O but her car just seems really slow even for a 4 cylinder. So i started to think that maybe a cylinder was blown or something and it is just running off of 3 cylinders and we just don't know. Also how does an RPM guage work? does it use the motor to help it run? Also it is an Automatic so i dont think that it helps out with the acceleration but the tranny shifts pretty rough sometimes and i was wondering if that could be causing anything wrong too. is there a rebulid kit for it we don't have alot of money so i hope none of this is expense to fix or even find out what is wrong with it. Sorry if i confused you but i really would like to know Thanks in advance - Cody -
Ok I don't wanna sound like a prick or anything, but I'm looking at your sig with 101 things done to your car, and you don't know how a tach works? Anyway the 2.3 auto cars are the slowest of the slow, so there's a chance there's nothing wrong with it and it really IS that slow.
The tach is run off the coil negative just like 5.0 cars, so check the signal wire, power and ground at the dash connector, and then make sure the connection to the actual tach is solid. If that does not fix it, it's probably the tach. You need to pull the codes, either with a scanner or with the check engine light method. The cel method is crude, and takes me several tries to make sure I have the codes, but it works. Search here, and especially on the 5.0 tech board for the info on how to do it. My 2.3 auto LX notch is quick enough for my everyday driving. It's not anywhere near my 82 5.0 toy, but it is fine day in and day out. With 88 hp, its not going to be real speedy, but it was never meant to be. But it gets 25 mpg, so who cares!
