I put on Duralast Gold Break Pads a few days ago and the front left wheel creaks when i Press the break down all the way. It slightly creaks if I turn the steering wheel (both directions) . Doesn't creak constantly but if i turn the steering wheel or am turning it at a stand still it will creak a bit. Not the entire time i turn it tho. Just almost like something is loose, ungreesed or i dont know. Also if i press the break to the floor and release it slowly it creaks. But it only creaks when its pressed a bit not right when i step on the break. Needs to be pressed down a bit to actually creak. All other wheels do not creak. I also dont seem to hear it creak when im driving but then again my engine sorta covers the sound. But i can hear it a bit when i turn left or right. It kinda feels that when i break suddenly it pulls to the right a bit. I was possibly thinking lack of lubrication? The break seems to be alittle spongy sometimes (NOT ALWAYS). Also seems that when i press the break down all the way it seems like they could be breaking alot better then they do. NOTE: The front left break had no creak prior to me installing the break pads. I was thinking possibly it needed to be greesed better. Also maybe because they had to be filed bit to fit maybe they need to be grinded a bit more? I gave alot of information hehe but its better to have all of it then some of it. I was possibly thinking I missed greasing something? And if thats true the lack of grease could it cause the breaks to be spongy? And if the driver side front break had lack of grease the inbalance could cause spongyness? Since 1 break is working properlly and the other is not. So 1 is working harder then the other. I dont know im just coming to stupid conlusions but please help me! Does my car have to visit the mechanic or is it as simple as just redoing my break pads and regreasing everything. O ya if it is just a regrease am I gonna have to put in new break pads since I removed the break pads to grease it? Please anyone if you read this whole thing please help:X I hate visiting the mechanic lol. Any1's input is mucho appreciated. Thank you for reading/listening.
My mother had metallic pads put on her car and the brakes squeek. I have organic pads on my car, and no squeek. Granted, mine probably won't last as long
Ahh, this sounds familiar... my car made that noise I think yo'ure describing for about a year before I figured out what it was... Turns out the tie rod ends were completely dry and just needed grease. It would creak when I'd turn the wheel at a standstill, and I'd notice it when I was driving slow like thru a parking lot. My car is a '98 and has the grease nipples, but I've noticed that newer ones don't. But what you could do is lift up the rubber seal over the tie rod end and smear as much grease as you can in there with your finger. The only thing that doesn't add up with that is the fact that the noise started after doing the brakes. Maybe try the anti squeal compound for the backsides of the pads? If the pedal feels spongy, it wouldn't hurt to bleed the brake system. I also put the Duralast Gold on the rear of my car, and I'll never buy this brand again, they're just really squeaky. I went with Hawk street performance pads for the front and they're really good. Hopefully I've been of some help!
Ive bleed the breaks and spongyness is gone. As to the tie rod theory i will have a go at that. thank you for your imput because u had the identical problem and most likely this is the fix thx! its just more of an anoyyance hehe.
Are you sure the noise is coming from the caliper? The bushing that supports the brake pushrod between the brake pedal and the booster can dry out over time, and I've heard of it squeaking as you apply or release the brakes.
