I don't know if it has been done or not but i was hoping to get 2 ten inch sub boxes molded to the rear wheel well in the hatch area. I want it so that the subs will be facing 45* towards the center of the car. Anyone know where i could get this done. Thanks.
Well i gotta lot of help from the people of stangnet, and they said about $1000 for someone to do it, due to the time and molding you have to do. There were some people that said they could do it cheaper, but i say about $600 at the cheapest.
I say do it yourself. Ever worked with Fiberglass? It's not as hard as it seems, just have to take you time and sand a lot.
Fiberglassing is easy, not as cheap as mdf boxes, but it looks way cooler. This is my setup... I did a whole write up on it a few months ago on stangnet, if you search for my name and the word fiberglass you will probably find it. i win .. this cost me roughly 200 bucks to make (canadian mind you so its alot cheaper for you boys) the subs go back into the trunk.. and on the other side of the third part is where the amp mounts, wires all run up through the bottom, so its all clean -Ryan
That looks awesome man, I didnt have that much room to work with though, the trunks in the verts are a LOT smaller.
thanks bud, it didnt need to be that size, its not all open inside, the part around the subs is the box, the rest is just to fill up the floor of the trunk.. i wanted the entire trunk to look good, and with the 4.30s weight over the back tires is a good thing lol... its as long as the trunk, and as wide as the trunk minus about a foot on the pass side.. just incase i need to put a bottle of something in there next summer -Ryan PS: to anyone who wants to make one, its way easier than i expected... the first couple boxes you make just take extra bondo/sanding -Ryan
that looks really good but i dont understand how it will look exactly in the car.. got any pics of it installed? and howd you mold that?
ask and ye shal recive.. forgive how dirty it is, the sub box was sitting in the garage for like 2 wks.. so its dusty as all hell.. and i cant get a pic of the other side, because my damn seat wont fold down for some reason
and to mold it is simple, you just make a skeleton of the shape you want out of MDF (the entire base is MDF also).. then stretch cloth (i used 4 or so T shirts) over the skeleton, staple or glue it.. then fiberglass, once it hardens, repeat the process... untill its good and sturdy.. then bondo and sand as needed.. paint.. and thats it -Ryan
Well what i was looking for was 2 seperate boxes that mold into the side moldings of the back hatch, i still want to be able to get to the spare easily, and have the ability to use most of the cargo space.
definately second the notion to learn fiberglass yourself... once you do a box you can do stuff like speaker pods and gauge panels, whatever you imagine really.
