The less bends, the better. Think smooth air flow. Try both positions. I have a 87mm MAF from wms. I had it calibrated for their cai. Why? Because the wms cai has the same 90 degree bend in it before the maf. My filter is down, btw.

I have one and it's in the down position because there's something in the fenderwell that prevents it from going in a straight smooth position. so, my filter is in the down position also and I don't seem to have any problems.

I have just the one bend on my 01' and it fits fine. I've heard from several tuners that is the best position.
