i was wondering what the basic difference was between the two computers. right now i have a pc1 computer. i wanted to upgrade and i can pick up a lb3 computer pretty cheap. also my car is a 93/5sp but i have swaped in a 86 turbo motor. i used stingers site to repin the harness but the computer is for 86 also. will this make a difference or should i get the computer from the 87 turbo coupe.

pc1 is rated for the most HP I think its 200HP and the La3 is a 195HP and i think the Lb3 is an auto eec and i think is has alittle less HP.

LA3 and LB3 are identical except for the LB3 running an Automatic. LA3 equipped cars were 195HP and LB3 cars were 155HP. The only real HP difference was caused by the automatic cars staying at 9psi boost, so the difference can be made up for by bypassing the BCS when using the LB3 computer.

PC1 is a non-intercooled, small VAM, 35lb/hr injector computer that came in cars rated for 145hp.

so if i could upgrade to a lb3 then use a custom chip, could i gain the lost horsepower back.

you missed it. The LB3 is the auto computer, you won't lose horsepower with it if you use an adjustable boost valve as compared to the LA3. The LB3 just runs a lower boost to the Boost Control Solenoid. But you don't have to use the Stock BCS, you use an adjustable boost valve like the gillisvalve and you don't have to have any horsepower loss by using it. Even if you use the LA3 you still want to use an ABV, because who wants to stay at stock boost and 190 hp?

The point is, you can use the LA or LB's and an ABV and have the same hp potential between any of them.

You want loose boost with a manual vavle but the timming on a auto EEC is different also. There is more timing comming from a LA3 than a LB3 because of the auto.

Hawk, I've never seen that verified, I've seen a lot of people say that but nobody has ever been able to find proof or confirm such. If you know otherwise please share. A lot of people for a long time have tried to find absolute truth there.

Really looking at it from Fords perspective there's no reason to change timing between the two since the LB3 already limits boost, plus economy is at it's best w/ peak timing.

oh yeah, and if you look at the HP output of the TC's, if you match psi output computer to computer (say limited the LA3 to the same psi output of the LB3 and figure in a bit of hp loss for an a4ld) you come to the same hp.

    I TOTALLY AGREE!

oh yeah, also the la3 is compatible (listed) as tunable with a tweecer and an eec tuner, dunno if the lb3 is?
