Been thinking of getting a new shifter for the 99 cobra. Will it really make a difference, or is the stock one fine?? I dont go racing or anything, just to work and drive around. Is it worth the money for a new one?? What brand do you recommend and which one do i need for the 99 cobra, what trans do i have??

I don't think you still have a T-45...not sure there.

I have a TopLine shifter, which is essentially a Tri-Ax in all but name. I love the improved feel on the street (my Cobra is my daily commuter); it just makes driving more enjoyable.

I race it once in awhile, & the improved feel helps, but mainly I like the positive stops to keep me from breaking anything in the trans if I get too aggressive on the track.

It's like anything else; did I need Flowmasters? Nope, but I sure do love 'em.

99 cobras came with the T-45 tranny. :)

Even if you are only daily driving the car, an aftermarket shifter would make for a nice upgrade. You won't believe how much more nicer it is to row through the gears with an aftermarket shifter.

Big improvement over stock. Flavor of the month is the new MGW shifter with the new orange handle. Any of the aftermarket shifters ( Pro. 5.0, Tri-Ax, etc. ) will work fine. :nice:

Over the stock shifter, an aftermarket shifter definately makes a difference...Any of the aftermarket shifters will be better than stock, but save your money on getting anything other than a MGW shifter...they are simply the best shifter on the market right now for a mustang...

just installed a mgw two months ago. I was kinda leary about the short throw part, but it is definately worth it. it can even save your shift forks, if your a banger. Check out the mgw site, I believe orange is the only choice now. very quiet shifter as well, I hear some of them allow or make more noise than the stocker. the swivel part allows for way more adjustment than anything else I saw while researching. And it actually lines up the shifts better than the stock one, which really wasn't that bad, just too far to third from second. now it just comes out of second, and by design goes straight to third, if you miss it, it will be because of your foot

werd to that. i love my orange MGW, you can feel the shift much better. I also am less paranoid about breaking stuff in there, like when i had my stock suckbutt shifter. seems like it would go into every gear but the one you need :rlaugh:
