'91 Mustang . I put a new door lock actuator in and it didn't last too long. Does the fuse for the power locks have anything else on the same circuit, as in what else may not work if the fuse is blown?
my owners manual says it's on a circuit breaker located near the starter motor relay, however it is not a fuse that just breaks. if it gets overloaded it will shut down and reset itself. if you have a convertible, the power windows are on the same circuit. did you mess with the wiring when you installed the new actuators?
Well, the easy solution is to just pull the actuators and have manual locks. Its just something with fox mustangs, the actuators have a tendency to go out...I don't know why.
one last thing to check, pull the actuator and bench test it to make sure it really is dead. it could be the switch. a month isnt instant, if it was electrical it should show sooner than that, unless there is a frayed wire or loose ground that pops up under certain conditions like stomping on the accelerator, etc. Also, you didnt say if it was both door locks that died?
They do not last forever, but should last more than 2 months. Open the panel back up and check if power is getting to it or not when you hit the switches. I had one after i did the retrofit that the tap on connectors didn't have good connection, but after I soldered them, all was good. If you find that the actuator is actually bad, then it should have some kind of warranty depending on where u purchased it from,,, where did you get yours from?
