Is the 2005 using an EEC-V or EEC-VI? I read that the EEC-VI came out in 2003, but Fords website still claims that most of their 2005 vehicles are using EEC-Vs.

It's probably EEC-VI. The Mustang uses the "Black Oak" PCM system which is the same thing that the 2003 and new Lincoln LS & T-Bird use as well as the 2004 and newer F-150.

According to the ford web site it’s a EEC-V.

2/3 of the way down the page, under power.

Thinking about it some more, are you sure that you didn't read that EEC-V came out in 2003 and most products were using EEC-IV until that point? A lot of Ford products switched to the new PCM system in 2005 which I assume is EEC-V

351CJ, as soon as OBD-II came out (1994), the EEC-V came out and the EEC-IV was no longer used as it could only support OBD-I. There were actually 2 versions of EEC-V. First was in '94 (other than Mustang as it was still using EEC-IV) and the second came out in '99.

Here is where I found the info about EEC-VI.

    Nice link Speed Demon1965.

It sounds like the correct answer is EEC-V 2.0, the newer flash memory version. Just saying it is EEC-V leads to confusion that the PCM system is the same as what is in the 99-04 Stangs, which is not the case.

However Ford did not introduce ETC until the 2003 Model year, so something had to change to handle the ETC, which the 2005 Stang has.
