Well my check engine light came on the other day. I took it to autozone and its something in the egr system. My warrenty just ran out and i know that there is an extended warrenty on the pressure sensor so i would like to figure out if thats the problem or not before i take it to the dealer($120 bucks for a diagnostic seems silly to me). I have a Haynes manual and i checked the vacum regulator and it seems to be ok. The picture in the book is of the pre 99 v6 engines so i'm not 100% sure i am checking the right thing for the pressure sensor, but I get a signal voltage of 5v when i first turn on the car. The book says that it should start close to zero and work up to 5. It also reads 5 v for both the signal and referance voltages when the key is on but the engine isnt running. Does this likely point to the sensor, something else, or am i doing it wrong? Also does anyone have any other ideas or comments?
Thanks for any help, I appriciate it.

If you are getting an egr CEL, then it will be the egr valve that is bad.

It is easy to change but will cost in the neighborhood of 60 bucks.

    I would start there.

Probably your DPFE sensor. About $16 at the Ford dealer, 5 minutes to install in your driveway.

Do you remember what code Autozone gave you?
Mine was P0401 "EGR Flow Insufficient"

ya i believe that was the code, and thats the part i am figuring is having the problem. That part is under an extended warrenty from ford, i think i'll just take it in and take my chances. Thanks for the help.
