Electronic Throttle--No smoky Burnouts??????

I have read 3 articles this weekend saying ford has it in the computer that no smokey burnouts with the electronic throttle. Engine will back off power so you cannot do massive burnouts??? What is the deal with this feature? Warranty saves?

Do you have a 05 GT ?

Well wait to see if other 05 owners are feeling the same problem.

Waiting until after the winter to pick up my 05. Have to sell my 98 GT first also.

Road and Track said something about them not liking the drive by wire throttle either, that there's a split second lag between when you punch it and when the motor actually does anything.

I would imagine that trying to hold a burnout for any length of time will cause the traction control to kick in and chop the power. Does the 05 have a defeat button for the traction control? If not, I'll be seriously disappointed in Ford.

Yes, it does but it defaults to "On" whenever the car is started. You have to remember to turn it off each time. I'm sure lawyers had something to do with that.

Same thing in my buddies Supra, it defaults to the on position. I think most cars go this way, I'm sure it had something to do with liability lawsuits, or the potential for them.

I drove an automatic 05 last week, and I thought the throttle response was quite excellent. Especially when compared to a stock 99-04, or my 94 when it was stock, which I found to be ridiculously stiff. My 94's throttle response is light as a feather and dramatically instant. The 05, that I drove, was pretty close. I was utterly shocked at how much thrust it had right off the line.

Steve McQueen did a big smokey burnout in the Cornfield video.

With that said, it is hard to break the wheels loose in this car, for some reason. I am also going from my 04 Mach 1 (~300 RWHP and 4.10 gears) to it which is a good deal of a difference in traction.

It seems all you do is post negative comments about the 05 Mustang, what gives, if you want a perfect car with all the power and throttle response your looking for maybe you should buy a Ferrari or something.

I have not noticed one bit of lag in my manual 05 GT
I also have not had any problem at all breaking the tires loose (I haven't gone for the smokey burnout yet though)

Some article I read a while ago said something like, "after turning traction control off, rev to 4000rpm and dump the clutch - it should result in 5 to 10 feet of rubber left on the pavement, depending on concrete conditions." Don't remember where I saw it, but it would seem sort of ridiculous if you couldn't burnout.

Show me one other post where I said one thing negative about the 05 other than this one which is really stating a point not bad mouthing the car! What are you talking about????

Burnouts

Another concern of mine is the computer and warranty. If the computer can control burnouts I'm sure it can log large differences in tire accelleration vs. engine RPM. I'm willing to bet some dealerships would try to use this information to void a warranty because of "racing."
If so, I guess the whipple charger will have to go on that much sooner.

i can do them in mine. Just turn off the tracion control and smoke 'em all day long.
