I have lived here for some time and have never had an official inspection per se, but are there regs about having off-road mid pipes (no cats)?

What about Nebraska? I commute to Omaha to work and drive around there, too.

Im still using my old address in Iowa city from college to be exempt from emissions lol

Where in Iowa are you? i never heard of any place in iowa that did require testing, if anything maybe des moines, but i still doubt it. so ull be fine to ditch the catted H for an off road one

it doesn matter where u go, u wont get a ticket for lack of smog equipment...only thing u have to worry about is that if u were in a testing area and blew off the test, your license would be suspended. But its highly unlikly this aplies to you

Yeah Iowa and most of Illinois don't require testing, and if you have to go to another state, you only have to follow Iowa's rules just like license plates, I beleive. (On emmisions)

I am the very SW corner, just across the river from Omaha. I'm ok now that I have heard some consensus.... Thanks!

I am no officer, But I beleive it's Federal law (all states must comply) that the cats be intact. Hence the term "off road use only". However, On my 93 (sold :( ) I had no cats and the police never checked it, even when they where slapping me with every fine possible.
The way I understand it is, If you where pulled over and an officer was looking for extra fines to give you, or impound the vehicle, lack of converters could give him a reason to take the car. I may be wrong, but this is what I have been told. I live in East Iowa

yes, in places where there is not testing no cats would be a reason for them to either give you another ticket or search your cars for drugs(?) if they can't find any other reason i think. Not like many officers are going to get down on their hands and knees and check under your car to make sure it has 4 cats then pop your hood and check for an egr and a smog pump.
