I know that the IIs have fairly large engine compartments, plus the addition of no shock towers makes things a bit easier. But I was wondering, is it possible to fit a 429 Cobra Jet (from a '70 Torino Cobra) in a '78 II?

anything can fit, its just a matter of time and money, or if your looking for streetability. The II doesnt really have much engine compartment room, you'll also have steering shaft issues.

I once placed a 460 in my II, besides the steering clearance issue, I had problems between the valve cover and master cylinder/booster area.
Also had no tranny room for the c-6 I was going to use.

Headers are the real nightmare. Imagine 2" primaries in a II.. ugh.

    Sudden Death

Look for an old ( late 70's) magazine with an article about a II called Sudden Death :nice:

Besides the obvious.... you will also have issues with the valve covers and the blower motor. Having a 351C4V in mine, I would definately advise it unless youplan to put a frame into it. there used to be a black 74 that was featured from WA back when 460 fairmont and zephyers were the craze.

So I suppose a Tremec six-speed is out of the question as well? :D

I have a chance to buy one but it seems like it would almost be more trouble than it's worth. I was originally going to swap in a 351C but then the chance came up to buy this 429 and it got me thinking. I want this car to be streetable and I want it to be able to handle a bit too, so this setup seems out of the question. I may buy it just to put in something else. Thanks for all of your help guys!
