I was cleaning my MAC filter for my CAI today when I realized that I never put the windscreen back in when I installed it. I can't remember why i didnt put it on? I know the purpose might be stop stop any large debri that somehow got up there, or is this used to smooth out the airflow to the engine? Can anyone tell me the purpose of this screen and do you have it installed on your CAI (it goes before MAF correct?). Thanks.

I think it is for debris. I can't see it being a wind thingy. I left mine in although I hear the CAI will whistle better with it out.

Yea, it's to catch things like bugs, leaves, birds, or whatever that might get sucked in by accident with the stock housing. You can toss it. Most do anyway. Even the Camaro guys do too.

The filter alone should kept most of those away.. the screen is for extra protection imo..

I was told that its main purpose is not debri, but to straighten out hte airflow before it hits the MAF wires to get a more accurate reading. Some say that this is why some people get low idle and then it surges. Now i just have to decide whether to keep it or toss it.

I'm glad I kept mine, I almost had a pretty hairy mishap with a flying squirrel. :D

For sure. That's why I took mine off when I first got mine 4 years ago before I knew anything about Camaros.
I just know since my girlfriend drives an 02 Z28 and I've toyed with it some. :D On a side note, those things are pretty freaking quick for being stock.

I've got mine on. Yes it is used to guard against large external debris.
