    04 gt mostly stock

Ill be replacing the cat back and the mid pipe... but first i need to decide what with..
For now im going with a standard length mid pipe and a cat back, keeping the stock manifolds..
the mid pipe will be catted..

I was all ready to order magnaflow mid pipe and cat back today at my local perf shop... but my buddy there said no, he thinks the magnaflows sounded like crap and id be much better served with SLP..

I dont care what brand it is... Heres what im looking for in this cat back:
    A little rumble at idle
Not crazy loud. I need to be able to talk on the phone at 2500rpms going down the highway...
    Hopefully no drone..

I definatley want something better than stock, for sound and performance. After all thats what exhaust is for. I want something that sounds good, but doesnt break up and isnt giving me a headache on long drives...

should i stick with the magnaflow? all of the research ive done pointed me to magnaflow and i never heard a single complaint except, its not as loud as SLP lol

opinions? Ive heard tons of SLP cars rip by, and its just way too loud for what i need. I have a 393w for that

    thanks

I voted for magnaflow because I've heard a couple modulars with them and although they aren't even close to as loud as SLP, to me they sound better.

Truthfully though, I'm old fashioned and have a set of flowmasters on mine that have been on the car for years. Feel free to jump on the hate mobile but the sound of a mustang with "blowmasters"/"chokemeisters"/"slowmasters"/whatever never got old to me.

Not an SLP fan at all. :ack:
I don't really care for chambered designs that much, either.

    I prefer straight-through designs myself.

Well, if you go LM I's , say good bye to talking on the phone. They are really loud even with cats. The LM IIs are not as loud, they are more tame and have a nice tone to them. I currently have LM II's with MRT catted H and I love the sound. If you go with LM's, defiantly get the II's.
Another option would be SLP poweflo mufflers, they are a straight threw design and would sound good also with a catted mid pipe. They would be the quietest of the three.

    i voted magnaflow

i have magnapacks, catted x and lt headers and i can talk on the phone at 2500rpms...its not to loud in just daily driving if you keep the rpms somewhat low and it sounds nice at idle

    no drone either!

I voted for magnaflow since that will likely suit your needs better than the SLPs if you aren't wanting loud.

I am currently running a mac prochamber which is a great midpipe (though not the cheapest) with magnaflow mufflers. My car has seen multiple exhaust setups including the o/r h with flowmaster setup. I enjoy my prochamber/magnaflow setup because it isn't "loud" by any means though isn't extremely quiet like a stock exhaust.

Just listen to all the sound clips that you can find though it's difficult to judge sound through speakers.

Stay away from SLP if u want it quiet...

MRT Catted H pipe & Bassani catback is what i would get if u want a little bark, but still quiet if u want it to be. Magnaflow's sound good, but are toooooooo d@mn quiet with cats & they are too tame sounding IMO. I have had magnaflows & swapped em out for Bassani's. The Bassanis sound mean, but still quiet enough with cats

I even have soundclips of both setups....

Magnaflow catback & MRT catted H pipe...

YouTube - Mach 1 take off, MRT catted H, & Magnaflow catback...
YouTube - Mach 1 exhaust clip. Normal driving

I now have LT's & an O/R H & this sounds the best of all IMO....

LM1's are loud but look at my sig, i can hear just fine in my car and talk on the phone w/ no problems. I DO however want to switch them out for the LM2's. There are many setups that sound awesome. You'll have to just decide which one YOU like the best:nice:

What you are looking for go with the magnaflows, SLP are loud period. I have a before and after mid pipe install vid in my sig. I would say check that out and I believe it will give you a good idea of what your car will sound like, granted mine will be a louder without the cats. I drive 2 hrs one way every other weekend with no problems with noise and no drone.
