Im thinking of installing a Bassani off road X pipe, with Flowmaster's American Thunder setup. Has anyone heard this setup, how does it sound? What are your opinions on this exhaust setup? Any suggestions and opinions are appreciated.
I started off with the Bassani o/r X-pipe and Flowmasters setup on my mustang and what a mistake. The sound was way too raspy. It sounded like a rice burner on steroids. I then exchanged the flowmasters for bassani's and what a difference. I suggest you go with a straight through muffler like bassani or borla with the x-pipe or get a h-pipe with a chambered muffler like flowmaster. Hope this helps.
yea it def does, i've been looking for sounds clips and trying to find the type of sound im looking for, i want something that sounds like an old muscle car, you know something that sounds mean
Its kinda hard to give advice when it comes to exhaust sounds as everyone has their own preferences. The Bassani system I have has a unique and aggressive sound. With the o/r version it is very loud, so if the cops are real ticket happy in your area, I'd go with the catted version. If your after that deep 5.0 rumble I'd go with Flowmasters and a H-pipe.
DO NOT get the flowmasters with OFFROAD PIPES!!! it WILL be raspy. if you get the hi-flo cats, it will help the sound tremendously. a member by the name of OFFICIAL_SYLE has a good sound clip of the hi-flow w/ flowmasters.
I heard a sound clip of the bassani o/r X with the flowmaster American Thunder at mustangexhaust.com but i think it was on an 03 mach 1, and it sounds pretty good. I am looking for an exhaust that will produce a classic rumble and i definitely dont want ne thing that has drone. I basically want something loud but not as loud as the SLP's.
If you want a musclecar sound I would stick with an H-Pipe. That's why I went with the Catted H-Pipe and JBA Longtubes. I kept the stock mufflers for now but I'll probably go with the Magnapacks or the Steedas Just my $0.02
I had an o/r h on and my 06 GT with the flowmaster axle back and it sounded like crap. The drone was horrable, it was hella loud, high pitched, and raspy beyond belief. It was to the point of being embarrassing. I drove the car for 2 months like this and bought a o/r prochamber and man what a difference. No rasp, quieter that the h pipe by a good deal, and a very deep tone. There is still drone but it is much reduced. I have never heard one with a o/r x but if it is more raspy than the o/r h-pipe I have pitty on the person that buys it. I have never heard one with high flow cats either. Due to the muffler placement on the 05+ you cannot compare the sound of a exhaust combo on a pre 05 car to what it will sound like on a 05+. What sounds great on a older car may sound like crap on yours.
just thought I'd ask a ?? on the exhaust topic... I too am looking for the old muscle car sound, namely like Eleanor. It was pretty loud when I heard her, and figure there were no cats (and I know the entire setup is different anyway). However, I have heard an 05 GT and an 03 mach 1 and loved their sound. the 05 had hooker long tubes, no cats, and flowmasters. the 03 had an offroad x-pipe and flowmasters. Both cars had a sweet deep "get outta my way" rumble. I lowered my car and the shop told me to stay away from long tube headers b/c of ground clearance. I would like to try borla aggressive mufflers with an off-road x-pipe, preferably stainless steel. Anybody hear anything close to this setup??? I don't want raspy; just slighter louder, deeper muscle. Any recommendations??? Thanks so much!
I have an O/R x-pipe with stock mufflers and it is raspy around 2,000 rpm. Sounds as if Kris6541 had the same problem. I'd switch to aftermarket mufflers to eliminate the raspy sound if I knew 4 sure that'd cure it. SO . . .Kris, did it get rid your raspy sound? UPDATE---> I have a UPR products x-pipe. I also need clarification on the "rasp-eliminating" mufflers
So I take it from above that a straight-thru muffler like borla with the o/r x-pipe would work out and minimize rasp. What would you guys recommend for an off-road x-pipe: bassani, pypes, magnaflow tru-flo, mac, or other??? I know I'd prefer a stainless steel over aluminized, but any experiences with the different x-pipes out there? Thanks!
