Just bought an 08 GT from a dealership and of course it only had one key and remote. Do these have the special security keys or will any key copy do?

Im not sure about the '08's but on my '05 the dealership wanted like $80 but make me a key and $30 to program it. But i did a little research and you can buy a blank ford key with a chip in it off of like ebay or somewhere for $20, pay $2 to any locksmith to laser cut it for you and you can accutally program it yourself using your car. If you look in the owners manual it shows you step by step how to do it. I think it requires you to have 2 keys though but it might be a different story for the '08's.

Yes, in order for you to be able to add transponder keys yourself, you need to already have 2 transponder keys programmed, and the programming requires both keys.

I would have asked them to provide me a second key as only a dealer or maybe some lock smiths can get then car in key learn mode with only one or no keys.

Hey, I cant make a copy of my key that will start the car with only one. Cut me another please. The FOB you can pick up after market for 25 bucks. New OEM.
So the key is good enough.

Yeah, the dealership only giving you one key is not acceptable. But if they refuse to give you the 2nd one for free or discounted, buy a blank off eBay and take it to them. They typically charge $80-$100 just for the key, so you'll save some money there. Since you only have 1 key, they have to program it.

The dealer should provide it free in my opinion.

Great thread as I am picking mine up today. Nice to know those extra keys are pricey. Gonna make sure I get two.

I only got one key with my car so I took that one to Ace Hardware and bought a new one which they programmed. Cost me $90 but my dealer wanted almost $200. Couldnt do the ebay deal since I only had one key.

Get the original key from the previous owner if you can. I called and kept complaining to the dealer until he called the P/O and got it dropped off at the dealer for me.
The way I see it, I couldn't sleep at night knowing someone had a key to my car and could just drive off it it at any time!

    Good luck.
