i have an exhaust leak from the water from the ac dripping on the cat/exhaust manifold...can that cause me to fail inspection? i gotta get it inspected tomorrow, adn was just wondering, thanx
I'm not sure I follow how water from the AC is making an exhaust leak. If you have an exhaust leak from a bad gasket or cracked manifold, you probably will have trouble (though some places are much less strict than others).
When the condensation from the AC condensor drips, it falls on top the passenger side header and the passengerside cat. When cold water hits something that hot it'll crack it... thus causeing exhaust to leak. Mustangmat, I don't think it'll cause you to fail inspection... you should be ok, but i'm not sure.
I think it'd have to be alot of water to crack the heads. True, enough cold water will crack hot metal, but dripping cold water should quickly steam off. I've only ever heard of the exhaust manifolds cracking on Jeeps, but I suppose it could happen. Makes me all the happier that I rarely use my AC. It's fine on the highway but in stop and go it kills my already poor mileage.
Trust me. It's from the condensation coming from the AC, true one drop woun't crack the headers, BUT over time something like 20 - 30 drops a day of cold water falling on the same spot on the same header... it'll cause it to crack slightly.
oh no, it will cause it to crack slightly and even worse..the ac dripping on it over time caused it to crack well that crack spread and broke the entire exhaust in half, GOD awful loud noise, i got it welded back up, but its not cracked the weld on it, im gonna have to redirect the dripping from the condensor...yea i looked it up after i posted and it says it will cause it to fail in texas, but the place i am going to, they did my ex gf's car in like maybe a minute? so im not to worried about them failing it for that
