Two weeks and 900 miles after driving the car off the lot, im done with performance mods for the time being. I thought since I would be leaving it this way for awhile I would get it on the dyno and ditch the "canned" tune and do it the right way. Went over to steeda since I live 10 min away and used their dynojet. Even before the first pull they adjusted the tune a little bit because it was very obvious I was running rich with the regular steeda tune bc of the o/r x-pipe im assuming. First pull netted 290.6hp and 313.3tq. They then proceeded to lean it out some more bc it was running about 12.1-12.2 a/f after 3k rpm. second pull ended up with 296.2hp and 314.1tq with a 12.9 a/f from 3000-6600rpm. Could have gone a tad leaner and maybe gotten the 300 mark but decided to keep it safe for now. All in all im very happy with the numbers since its basically just exhaust, intake, and a tune. Ill post the graph on here as soon as I get it scanned.

    Cool.

Did you do the tuning or the Steeda techs?

steeda techs did everything while I watched. They were pretty strict about keeping out of the bay while the car was running at least. the software seems simple to use-just a matter of getting a hold if it for personal use--and a wideband.

I posted a topic in the tech section that no one appeared to care about.

The information was from a GM engineer who worked on the Northstar engine design.

What he said was that under Wide Open Throttle, almost all of today's engines intentionally run a very rich A/F mixture to help cool the valves and spark plugs.

The PCM kicks in this rich A/F mixture after a few seconds of WOT. From the dyno-charts that I've seen on the 05 Stang GT's it appears that its PCM does this.

I'd be careful about leaning out the A/F unless you understand whether you're adjusting the A/F all the time, under WOT or only delayed WOT enrich.

Yeah i think thats why he said he let the techs do everything. :nice:

Yea, but from what I've been reading on the Internet, I'm not sure that either the techs in the dyno room nor the companies that make the tuners understand the delayed WOT enrichment code in the PCMs.

I guess I'll just sit here and wait for the first 05 tweaker to post here crying about his burned valves, melted spark plugs and holed pistons.

Maybe the 4.6L 3V PCM doesn't function this way, but again some of the dyno charts I've seen the A/F starts out normal and then goes rich later on. There is a reason why Ford is running the 4.6L 3V so rich and I would want to understand why they are doing that before I leaned the A/F out.

what have you done by way of after-market modifications? I was under the impression that the 05's come with 300 bhp. You are getting those numbers at the wheels, so I am very curious what else you have done to your car.

SCT has a former Ford Engineer who worked with the factory tuning of Ford EEC IV and EEC V vehicles. He has a excellent understanding of the current Ford programming. So SCT definitely knows what they are doing, now some of the other stuff, well, I won't comment.

I saw those. I thought he would have had to have done much more than that to put down close to 300 at the wheels. I had seen that stock, the 05 was laying down 250 rwhp and that agressive tunes were getting an extra 15-20 hp at the wheels. I guess those things are shipped de-tuned.

I haven't seen an 05 put down that low a number stock. What I have seen stock is around 265-280 mark in stock trim.

sorry for no graph yet guys-it wil be posted soon so everyone knows im not pullin this out of my ass. As for the a/f...it was right at 12:1 on the first pull which netted the 290.6-leaned it out and then got around 12.9:1 which netted the 296.2. Both are in a safe range for an n/a engine and could have easily hit the 300 mark by leaning it out a little more but this is good for now-and safe. The steeda tech was amazed by the numbers-he said and I have seen other numbers like this but usually with pulleys and headers or charge motion deletes. Next up is 4.10's and some drag radials before the track. hopefully this will get me in the 12's and if not then damn close.

and Jerry-only mods are the ones in my sig-for now
