OK, the last problem i need to work out of my engine is an exhaust leak. There is a leak in the exh. man-to-turbo, AND between the exhaust turbine housing of the turbo and the 90° downpipe section. I will have to remove the downpipe to fix the leak, problem is that the bolts are seized. Any advice on this? I just finished porting an E6 manifold, so i will swap that at the same time i fix the leak. I will port-match the turbine housing inlet at the same time. should i seperate the housing from the rest of the turbo to do that? I need to have the gaskets ahead of time, so i need to know, are there gaskets anywhere in the turbo?? Thanks a lot for the help, -Ryan
Heat will losen the downpipe bolts... No need to remove the housing to port match...just throw a rag down in there to keep the crap out. Only a turbo to manifold steel gasket.
I'm swaping in a E6 also and I used PB Blast to soak the exhaust bolts the night before. Heat works great also like Stinger said. When removing the turbo/mainifold becareful not to mess up the oil lines feed/return. Motion Dynamics sells all the bolts, gaskets etc you will need to do this swap. They also sell two different types of oil feed lines but the oil return is a hard to get so becareful Check out my site ( link below), I tryed to post imformation on doing this swap in hopes of helping someone htt://www.motion-dynamics.net/products/2point3/default.asp
Thanks, wasnt sure if the rag would be enough. Anything else i might look at/fix/replace on the turbo while i have it off? I tried the bolts before i put the turbo on the car, and they were stuck... maybe now they have seen some heat again, they will be a little more cooporative. and if not, there is always WD40... I ordered that gasket already, so i guess thats all i will need. My oil return is a custom job, and the gasket is fresh, so it should be reusable. [EDIT] Thanks Pro-Hawk, i'll check out Motion Dynamics for the oil suply lines, maybe they will have one that is a little better than the stock one. [/EDIT] Finaly, i'll be rid of that noise! maybe gain a few HP from the ported manifold at the same time. (not to mention fixing the leak) Thank you guys! -Ryan
I completely understand. I was tired of the exhaust inside the car and the loss of boost That is one reason I started my semi big project I'm using a ported E6 also and read where someone dyno a ported E6 to add 11 hp so we will see if it helps I polished the exhaust elbow part a tab bit in hopes of better flow and less carbon build up. Theres a few pics of this on my site also.
