I'm thinkin' of buying an '06 GT and putting a supercharger, exhaust, wheels, brakes, minor suspension mods etc... But I could use all that money and buy a fox body and build the crap out of it. What do you guys think? Should I dump the money into a Fox or buy the S197?

the stock S197 chassis is as rigid as a fox with a full cage. use the better chassis.....

I love the FOX Body cars (I've had two of them), :nice:

but the S197 platform is a quantum leap beyond any earlier Mustang.

How much do you plan to drive this "new" car? Also, how much racing do you plan to do? Answering these questions would help people help you.:SNSign:

I have both and would say if you plan to drive it a lot get the s197 but if it's a toy then get the fox. I love my 07 GT, very rigid and comfortable driving. My blown fox coupe is rough, loud and something I wouldn't want to drive as a daily driver. Power to power my blown 89 coupe makes the 07 GT feel like a grandma's car though but that would be expected with almost double the horsepower and it weighs about 800lbs less. My vote is for the s197 though since the aftermarket is booming for it and it is just a nice car to drive.

It would just be a car to cruz around town with and take to the track every now and then. It would not be my daily driver, but a toy to play with on the weekends. But I also don't want to lose if someone wants to run with me.

sort of compairing apples to tomato's both are great for their intended purpose.
fox, cheap, easy to mod. hard to find nice cars anymore.
s197. new car, get any color you want. no wierd previous owner "modifications"
like posted above, the s197 cars are 25yrs newer in technology, and it shows.
if you have the funds, a 06-07 with a blower is the best of both worlds.

The way I look at it you will spend a lot to get a Fox body in excellent shape, most I have seen have been in the +$15,000 range that have been well taken care of. I know I wouldn't take a penny less than that for mine.

As far as I see it:

Fox cars are unrefined and a blast to drive because the chasis is so flexible, motor has a lot of low end power.

S197 cars are light years ahead of the Fox3 platform (which we all know was origianlly used for passenger cars.) The motor is smoother. Everything works and is completely fresh from the factory.

That being said, I love my car but am looking to get a new Mustang in a year or so (when the boss comes out actually)

Ah, just get one of each. I bought my 89 coupe when I was 18 and bought an 07 GT 18 years later. I guess my next mustang will be an electric car since it will take me aother 18 years to talk the wife into another one, lol. I say go for the new one. Just got my 07 back from the shop getting it lowered with the Eibach Pro-kit and love it.

I've also had both. I've owned dozens of Mustangs over the years, all kinds of models, transmissions and various horsepower. I currently have a 2005 Mustang and a 1966 Convertible. While I dearly love the convertible, the 2005 is a much better car in every respect. The newer Mustangs are the best ever built. Period. That's what I would go with if finances permitted.

then look at getting a used S197 V6 for about $15k, swap in a built/TC'd or SC'd 5.4 and a T56. Put in your suspension and wheels and you'll have a nice daily driver for less than $30k that'll never lose mang!
