FR500 Cams swap question (now 4 sale on Ebay) I was about to put FR500 cams, springs and retainers on stock heads without pulling the heads and changing valves (to FR500 valves). Can I do that ? Ford makes it sound as though you must user Fr500 valves with the FR500 cams ? Help. Anyone ?
You need new springs at least. You need HP springs http://www.propowerparts.com/Modular/valvetrain.htm ModMax 305-25246 $4.61ea. ’96 and UP DOHC and FR500 DOHC Hi-Performance Valve Spring (89# on the seat and 202# at .450" lift. Max lift .500") You can reuse your stock valves ect.
The springs that come with kit require you use the valves that come in kit. Valves are same length, but lock grooves are higher than stock. Do a search on corral.net. for the name MACHONETHIS.
That's what I thought and could see the difference in the valves to. So that means, that one cannot swap in FR500 cams, springs, and rockers in without pulling the heads and changing valves. Thanks for the info.
Thanks, what springs would you recommend ? I don't want to use new stock springs; who makes stock length springs that are stronger and would be compatible with these cams ?
A complete valve job to the heads would definately be in order especially if youre going with a new set of valves....As for the stock springs, they are quaility pieces, and just as long as you limit the lift numbers to .465 you will be fine..the 4v benefits more from duration than lift...DA snake boy!!!
Bought Crower Stage 2 and had Crower springs. FR500 New entire valvetrain for sale on Ebay. Once in a lifetime price. Still in boxes.
