Hey, I still somewhat new to the mustang scene but have learned alot from here and other sites....I have a 91 5.0 and gas is killing me b/c the distance I drive...and I was wondering if anyone has swapped from a 5.0 to 2.3T...I know it sounds dumb but I love the sound of a turbo and gas mileage lol...I was just curious the jist of what it would cost and how hard it would be..Thanks

The easiest bet would be for you to grab a complete 87-88 turbo coupe and you'd have to swap the entire engine management system and re route a fuel line i think. Im not sure, but i would bet that all the mounts and everything could swap right over from the thunderturd. Im not sure if you would need a 4cyl mustang driveshaft or not.

What kind of milage are you getting with the 5.0? You should be able to get at least 18-24 in daily driving.
I think it would be way more trouble than it's worth to do a 2.3T swap.

It would probably be much easier to start with a 4 cylinder car. I'll trade ya for your 5.0 :D

I would say, sell your 5.0L, buy a cheap rust free 4banger mustang and a turbo engine, and then you still have some cash to upgrade your car..

Yeah, I think it would definitely be easier to just get a four cylinder car to start with, or even pick up a Turbo Coupe or something. Course, my Turbo Coupe only averaged about 25 mpg most of the time.

Really it is not that bad of a swap, you can use the 5.0 harness, just re-pin it and cut out one half of the injector harness. Easier would be to swap in a 2.3 harness, but it would not have to be done.
the fuel lines would need to be re-routed/modified as the 5.0 hooks at the front right of the engine, and the 2.3 is at the left rear.
I have seen a few people that have gone from 5.0-2.3t, one of which was an 86 for sale on TF a while back.
