I'm wondering what the stock sender would read for fuel/empty? I need to pick up a different autometer fuel level gauge, right now I'm using one that was for my dad's car, which won't work.

Autometer says this: (73 Ω Empty/8-12 Ω Full) For most Fords before 1989 and most Chrysler vehicles.

What do our cars read at full/empty for ohms? Am I going to have to get a gauge with it's own sending unit? Or will that one work?

Thanks for the help guys. I searched around and I didn't see anything.

The Autometer numbers are correct for the MII. The Ford Service Manual for 75-76 shows a good sending unit should read 60 to 86 ohms at Empty and 8 to 12 ohms at Full. 73 ohms is the midpoint between 60 and 86 ohms.

yup, yup, I went to Radio Shack and bought a resistor for 1.00 and tested it. as soon as i crossed the resistence, it went right over to full, so i knew the sender was bad.
